Her Story by Sarah Brody

Hey Girl!
This week we're featuring this sweet soul + life coach: Sarah Brody!

Tell us about you & what you do!
Well, the first thing to know about me is I’m a BIG believer in finding what makes you happy and doing what you love. I think I’ve always had that in me. I’ve always been the friend who wouldn’t stop at the surface level “how are you?” - I want to know how you actually are and talk about the REAL stuff! And honestly, that was a lot of what led me to life coaching.

I’ve made a lot of big changes in the past year! I married the best possible partner I could ask for and had a beautiful wedding in Maine. We moved from Boston, where I had spent my entire life to this point, to Cleveland, where I didn’t know anyone yet! My husband made a major career change. And… I launched my life coaching business!

It’s been a whirlwind, but I truly feel like I’m living the life that I want.
And now I get to spend every single day helping other women to create the lives THEY want to be living, and it’s just been the most rewarding experience, getting to be a part of their journeys toward freedom, happiness, and fulfillment.

What exactly is a life coach, anyway?
Yes, I get this question a lot!! But I love explaining it, because there are so many people who aren’t familiar with life coaching but could really find it valuable :)

A life coach is someone who supports you in designing and pursuing the life you want. As a coach, I’m not here to give you answers or tell you what’s right for you (only you know that!) My job is to ask you powerful questions that help you think about and see things differently. I listen deeply, and I hold up a mirror for you, so you can take an honest look at where you are now, where you want to be, and what it’s going to take to get there.

Coaching is designed for helping you take action and create real change. We don’t just talk! I’ll actually ask my clients at the end of every coaching session what they’re committing to doing that week, so they’re constantly moving closer to their goals.

What kind of clients do you work with? Why did you decide to focus there?
I work mostly with women who struggle with self-doubt and imposter syndrome, to help them increase their confidence. I’ve talked to *countless* women, across all different careers, backgrounds, and stages of life, and almost every. single. one. has said that she feels held back by her negative thoughts. That she feels she has to “fake” her confidence, because it’s not really there. That she doesn’t feel like she deserves her accomplishments or has much value to contribute, and doubts herself constantly.

I personally came from the tech world, so I know what it’s like to be a woman in a fast-paced, results-focused, masculine-energy environment. I know the stress, the overwhelm, the burnout. And I’ve witnessed first-hand how many women don’t speak up in meetings, don’t share their ideas, don’t ask for a raise. I’ve seen how many women dream of starting their own business, but don’t actually make the leap out of fear or lack of belief in themselves. And most of all, I’ve seen how many women just don’t feel good about themselves, and live with that burden every day.

When I became a life coach, I decided that this was where I wanted to focus, because it’s something I’m really passionate about changing. I firmly believe that you should be doing what you love and you should feel BEAUTIFULLY CONFIDENT doing it! It’s my mission to help as many women as I possibly can to achieve that.

What’s the most memorable thing you’ve heard from a client?
Ooh, this is a tough one. One that really stood out to me was when I was talking with a new client who told me that she’s never felt like she had someone she could talk to about these topics in a real genuine, honest way. With her husband, her friends, even therapists, she said she always felt judged and was afraid to fully share her true self, and so she always felt like she had to handle all her struggles on her own. After our first conversation, she said: “Right now, talking to you, I don’t feel alone.”

And… man… if I can do this for even one person, my heart is so full.

Anything else we should know?
Yes! If you’re curious about life coaching, reach out any time, I’d love to chat! I’ll also be hosting workshops (the next one is called Move Fearlessly Forward and it’s July 11th in Lakewood), which is a great way to explore some of these topics!
