From Creative Space to Curated Celebrations: How 2 Photographer Friends Turned Their Studios into Dreamy Event Spaces!
From Creative Space to Curated Celebrations: How 2 Photographer Friends Turned Their Studios into Dreamy Event Spaces!
How did this all begin?
Honestly, it started really organically. We were using our German Village studio for lifestyle and brand shoots, but clients kept saying things like “I wish I could host something here!” or “This would make the perfect wedding venue.” One day we looked at each other and said, "Why not?" We already had the natural light; the open space; the aesthetic — it was just a matter of shifting the mindset from “shoot day” to “event-ready.”
What was your vision for the space when you made the transition?
We didn’t want to lose the creative spirit that made our studios special in the first place. So our goal was to keep the clean and light-filled, but add flexible pieces that could work for anything from an intimate dinner to a lively celebration.
Think: neutral palettes, plants, string lights, and of course, amazing natural light. The space had to photograph beautifully, because we’re photographers at heart. That’s still our north star.
You’ve recently opened second, larger space - tell us about that!
As bookings picked up and word spread, we realized we were outgrowing the original studio. Clients asked for more capacity, more amenities, more flexibility. We wanted to be able to say yes without compromising the experience. So we looked for a space that could maintain the same warmth and creativity, but on a grander scale. The second Downtown location has higher ceilings, custom tables, a getting ready space, two bars, a caterer’s kitchen and a room for live music or installations. It’s still very much “us”, but elevated.
How did you know it was the right time to scale?
It was a series of nudges rather than a single moment. We were turning away events because of size limits; booking out months in advance, and vendors were asking if we had something bigger in the works. We also realized we had built a strong foundation - a clear aesthetic, loyal clients, and a workflow that could scale. We took it as a sign to grow intentionally. We didn’t want to just replicate the first space; we wanted to evolve it. And it’s been amazing to see the two locations complement each other; each with their own vibe and purpose.
What makes your event spaces different from a traditional venue?
As photographers, every detail from the natural light to the clean lines and open layout is created with visual storytelling in mind. But what truly sets us apart is our flexibility. Unlike traditional venues, we don’t have any food or beverage minimums, and we don’t limit your vendor choices. You’re free to bring in your own caterer, bartender, or even DIY your setup if that’s your style.
We’ve intentionally created a blank canvas — a beautiful, light-filled space that can transform to suit any event; from intimate dinners and brand pop-ups to showers and styled shoots. All décor is welcome, and we love seeing how each client brings their unique vision to life. It’s a space designed to be reimagined again and again, without the limitations of a typical venue.
What are the challenges in opening an event venue?
Learning the ins and outs of hosting (permits, insurance, vendor policies) was a whole new world. But we leaned into it the same way we did photography: with creativity, patience, and good systems. We also listened closely to client feedback and evolved the spaces over time to meet their needs.
What’s been the most rewarding part of the journey so far?
Seeing people bring the space to life. Whether it’s a glowing mama-to-be; a couple cutting a cake; or a brand founder celebrating a launch — watching it all unfold here feels full circle. We built these spaces with our own hands and now they’re part of someone else’s story. That’s magic.
