Your Body Isn’t Broken: Sasha Meets Fitness on Strength, Hormones & Self-Trust
Why I started
They say you find your purpose in the struggle and that couldn’t be more true for me. In college, I hit an all time low. I was trapped in the toxic grip of diet culture, battling an eating disorder, and stuck in an emotionally, physically, and sexually abusive relationship that made me feel small, powerless, and unworthy. I had spent years chasing the “perfect” body through Pilates, 1000 calorie diets, and long distance running, only to feel weaker, more exhausted, and more disconnected from myself.
Then, I found weightlifting. And for the first time, I felt strong and not just physically, but mentally. In two months, it changed my body more than years of restriction ever had. But more importantly, it gave me confidence, independence, and the self worth I’d been missing. At my lowest point, lifting was my escape. At my highest, it became my purpose.
I became a personal trainer in 2018 because I wanted to help women who had been where I was: women who felt lost, broken, or trapped by their own bodies. But as I worked with more clients, I saw the same patterns in them that I had faced myself. Off and on since 2013, I had fallen into every diet culture trap — 1200 calorie diets, intermittent fasting, excessive HIIT workouts, waist trainers — believing they were the keys to weight loss and health. Instead, they wrecked my hormones. I gained weight despite doing everything “right,” lost my period for months at a time multiple times, developed gut issues, and ended up with an underactive thyroid.
That’s when I realized: Our bodies will give us what we want when we give them what they need.
Women have spent years following nutrition and fitness advice designed for men, leaving us with imbalanced hormones, painful PMS, and stubborn weight that won’t budge. It’s not our fault. We were just never given the right information.
Now, my coaching goes beyond just workouts and macros. I teach women how to move, eat, and live in alignment with their hormones so they can break free from the cycle of burnout, restriction, and frustration. Because no woman deserves to feel like her body is broken. And if she’s stuck in a place where I once was, I want her to know she’s not alone. She’s worth more than the pain she’s been through. And she can build herself back from the ashes.
I know what it’s like to feel powerless in your own body. And I also know what it’s like to take that power back. And now? I help other women do the same.
Who or what inspires you?
My clients inspire me to show up every day, not just for them, but for myself. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety, and there are days when self doubt creeps in, making me question my worth. But when I see how hard my clients work, how much they’ve grown, and the impact I’ve had on their lives (some of them have been with me since before COVID!), it reminds me that I do have a place in this world. I am making the impact I once only dreamed of. That’s why I keep showing up because they inspire me just as much as I hope to inspire them.
What does beauty mean to you?
Beauty is being unapologetically yourself. Beauty doesn't only equate to physical appearance: makeup, hair, tan, outfits. Beauty is who we are on the inside and how we present that to the outside world. Confidence, self worth, and happiness!
