Corporate Life to Community Impact — Niki’s Rowing Journey
Hi, I’m Niki - owner of Row House Upper Arlington.
Growing up I didn’t feel like an athlete; I lacked confidence and raw talent,so sports never quite clicked for me… until rowing.
In high school I joined the crew team, and for the first time felt strong, capable, and confident in my body. Rowing was different. It was so physically challenging, while at the same time being rhythmic and grounding. In a boat every person matters as much as the rower next to them. Technique and connection are as valuable as sheer power. Rowing transformed my body physically and mentally, and helped me grow into the truest version of myself.
Years later, after getting married, having two kiddos and settling into a career in corporate life that no longer felt aligned, I was searching for a workout routine that felt inspiring. In early 2021, I stumbled upon Row House. It allowed me to rediscover that best version of myself again. My passion pushed me from member to coach, and eventually studio owner.
Why I started:
I had been considering a career change, but didn’t know where to start. With all the hours consumed by work, I just knew I wanted to do something more meaningful that would help others and make an impact on my community. I found coaching at Row House so incredibly fulfilling that when the studio was looking for a new owner, it felt like a perfect opportunity!
What I love about being a business owner:
I love making personal connections with members and people in my studio; getting to know them; celebrating their joys and successes, and being there to support them through growth, tough days and even loss. It’s 100% the best part of this job.
What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet and/or who purchase your products?
I want people to learn that they are stronger than they give themselves credit for, both physically and mentally. I hope they find rowing as inspiring and fulfilling as I do, and keep coming back for class to gain and build that strength and confidence.
Who or what inspires you?
The amazing people in my studio; from women training through their pregnancies or just restarting a workout routine, to those in their 60s able to crush a half marathon challenge (that’s a 21,097 meter row!). My husband provides me constant support and inspiration to always keep going, and my kiddos who keep crushing amazing milestones of their own - I am so fortunate to have an incredibly supportive family and community.
