HER STORY ⟡ Dr. Christa Whiteman

Today we are meeting Dr. Christa Whiteman of Turnpaugh Health & Wellness!

Tell us about you!
I've been a chiropractor and functional medicine doc for over 17 years. I graduated from Messiah College in 2002 with a degree in biochemistry. While doing so, I became very interested in nutrition and natural healing as I learned the basics of how what we eat literally becomes the cells, neurotransmitters and hormones of our body. After graduating, I chose chiropractic school over medical school to learn at a deeper level how to help the body heal 'without drugs or surgery.' I am very grateful to get to spend each day helping people address years of chronic pain and illness with diet and movement!

Outside of my work, I enjoy being outdoors and being strong! I love to lift heavy, practice jiu jitsu, bowhunt, hike and fly fish. All can be activities that are traditionally very male dominant. I enjoy empowering women to take up space in these endeavors as well. We are so much stronger than we often give ourselves credit for!

Tell us about your business!
At TWHC, our mission is to provide our patients with comprehensive, compassionate health care. We have a team of providers including chiropractors, nurse practitioners, physicians & physician's assistants, naturopaths, nutritionists, acupuncturists, and massage therapists to all help a patient get to the root cause of symptoms or health problems and affect holistic, healing in a compassionate, personalized way. In addition to functional & integrative medicine, nutrition counseling, family medicine and chiropractic care, we offer other integrative services such as acupuncture, massage therapy, nutritional IVs, hyperbaric oxygen, red light therapy, reflexology, ionic foot detox, LDI/LDA, and health coaching.

What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet/speak to?

I hope my impact on folks would inspire them to love their bodies a little more, take a little more care of them- embrace longevity- not just the flash in the pan stuff. I think a lot of times, for women in particular, there can be this focus on aesthetic goals which aren't always in our best interest health-wise. Loving our unique selves and embracing longevity are key to protecting ourselves.

What advice would you give to yourself from 5 years ago?

Little choices, made consistently, add up to big changes over time. And those results last longer than the big overhauls. You don't have to spend an hour or two a day at the gym to get results. Better to do 30 focused minutes 4-5 days a week. You don't have to have the perfect diet. Just focus on getting in your protein and veggies and the most of the rest takes care of itself. Self-care is not always self-indulgent. It can look like saying no to protect your energy and peace of mind, it can look like going to the gym even when you don't feel like it and it can look like drinking water instead of yummy latte with more sugar than caffeine.

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty to me is authenticity- living your best life as your most true self. When people show up as their most authentic selves, even when it might not 'popular', those people are always the most interesting, attractive people in the room to me. It takes courage to live and show up as your authentic self. It's a very beautiful to bear witness too.

Who or what inspires you?
I find inspiration in a lot of places! My husband, my gal pals, my professional mentors, the girl lifting heavy at the gym, the first flowers of spring- anywhere anyone or thing is doing their best to be the best version of themselves each and everyday, I find inspiration in that unbridled expression of authenticity, strength and/or joy!

What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?
I'm always up for talking about health, wellness, nutrition, herbs, or strength training, so don't hesitate to strike a convo at an event!
