HER STORY ⟡ Jessica Ford
Hey ladies!
I’m Jessica, and I live in the Queen City (Charlotte) with my beautiful (and seriously sassy) Cavapoo, Joyce. I’m originally from England and moved to North Carolina in 2005 for a work transfer. I started out in Greensboro, then made my way to Charlotte during the pandemic — and honestly, I haven’t looked back since!
How It All Started
QC Candle Company came to life in 2024 after an unexpected layoff from corporate America. I felt completely lost — that company had been my identity for over 20 years. I was having a rough day when my best friend called and said, *“Girl… get up and get out of the house.”* So, I went to Target (because obviously).
Next thing I know, I’m standing in the candle aisle, trying not to cry while sniffing every single one. I didn’t plan on buying anything — I didn’t even know when my next paycheck was coming — but that’s when it hit me. I’ve always loved candles, but everything on those shelves was full of chemicals and dyes. That was my lightbulb moment. I started researching natural ingredients, learning how to make candles, and testing out recipes (with some pretty epic fails along the way!). Eventually, I found the perfect blend — and that’s where my story really began.
What I Love About Being a Business Owner
I love being able to use my creative side to make something people can enjoy in their homes. No one’s telling me what to do or how to spend my time — it’s all me, and I love that freedom. The success of my business depends on how much I put into it, and that keeps me motivated to keep creating and trying new things.
The Impact I Hope to Have
I want people to appreciate the simplicity behind my products — clean ingredients, minimal recyclable packaging, and affordable prices without all the unnecessary fluff. Just honest, quality candles that make your space feel good.
Who Inspires Me
My parents are my biggest inspiration. They worked hard their whole lives, raised me (which definitely deserves a medal), and made sure we got to see the world even on a tight budget. They raised me to be an independent woman and taught me to never give up, and to always follow my dreams — and they’ve been my biggest cheerleaders.
