HER STORY ⟡ Pamela ODea

Hi! I’m Pamela ODea, an artist and co-owner of Good Dea Craft School in Columbus O-H!

As an athlete with a passion for fragrance, I enjoy a good workout; as well as the freedom of creating new scents with my customers.

My fragrance business began as a way to use more natural ingredients in my life. Swapping out unnatural chemicals with eco-friendly materials went from home goods to body care to fragrance, and led me to pursue education in professional perfumery.

Now an independent perfumer, I focus on building long-lasting and effervescent fragrances that are as familiar as they are unique. The Perfume Bar allows everyone to enjoy the experience of building a fragrance that is special to them. I often get  hired for bridal showers, birthdays and corporate events.

All my materials are vegan and animal friendly. I use only perfumery grade essential oils, absolutes, isolates, and green chemicals (no by-products). While the world seems focused on the bottom line, I focus on building a line of high-quality and earth safe products that rival the best that Saks has to offer.

I hope is to get more people excited about custom fragrances; educate people on the difference between fragrance ingredients, and bring a new sensory experience to everyone I meet. Fragrance is not just about perfume. It can be a ritual. You can create something that tells your brain it’s time to be creative;  or it’s time to relax and switch gears away from the stress of the day. Whatever you need a little nudge with. I  suggest building a fragrance with a specific purpose. Your brain and memories have a stronger connection to scent than any of the other senses. Scent actually skips over a couple steps in the brain and goes directly to the amygdala and hippocampus.

My inspiration comes in many forms; places I’ve visited; people I’ve met, dreams, even movies are inspiring to me. Seeing my son’s smile is one of the reasons I work as hard as I do. I want to give him a good life and be a role model he can count on.

My favorite piece of advice came from my previous career as an air traffic controller. “If there is a problem, look in the mirror first.”

What does you want Beauty Boost members to know?

Fine fragrance is not reserved for fat wallets. Don’t fall for the advertising hype or cheap fragrance oils. You can get high-quality (and SAFE!) fragrances from indie perfumers without paying the markup. It just takes a little searching. Look! You just found one.
