HER STORY ⟡ Teryl Wylie

Today, we are meeting Teryl Wylie, owner of Burn Boot Camp!

Tell us about you

I’m a wife to Tom, mom to Maelyn and Cannon, bonus mom to Brayden and Brooke, and step mom to my son in law Travis. And the name that melts me every time is TT, which is what my grandson Lincoln calls me. That little boy has my whole heart. My kids and I moved to Kentucky in the summer of 2019, and it’s been such a meaningful chapter for us. I grew up in North Carolina, but building our life here has truly been a gift. Faith and family are at the center of everything I do. I love being present for the big milestones and the everyday moments, and I care deeply about creating a life that feels intentional and grounded. I also absolutely love to travel. Exploring new places energizes me and stretches me in the best way. And in my spare time, I share my style finds and favorite beauty products on my Like to Know It page, The Firm Foundation Edit. It’s just a fun extension of who I am. I love helping women feel confident not just in the gym, but in how they show up every day. At my core, I believe people are capable of more than they think. I’m passionate about growth, about community, and about helping others see strengths in themselves they may not even realize are there.

Tell us about your business

I’ve been a Burn Boot Camp owner for seven years, and what we’ve built is so much more than a place to work out. We deliver trainer led, high energy camps that challenge people physically, but the real transformation goes far beyond the workout itself. We’ve created a space where people feel known, supported, and pushed in the right way. A place where friendships form, confidence grows, and people start believing in themselves again. For me, this business has never just been about fitness. It’s about impact. It’s about helping busy moms, dads, and professionals realize they are stronger than they think, inside and out. Getting to do that here in Kentucky, in a community we love, makes it even more meaningful.

Why I started:

I started because I wanted to build something that mattered. I didn’t just want to run a business. I wanted to create spaces where people felt stronger, seen, and capable. I’ve always believed business can be ministry, community, and impact all at once. That’s what pulled me in.

What I love about being a business owner:

I love building people. I love strategy and growth and hitting goals, but what really fuels me is watching someone step into leadership, gain confidence, or realize they’re capable of more than they thought. Ownership gives me the opportunity to shape culture, and that’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly.

What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet and/or who purchase your products?

I hope they leave feeling stronger than when they arrived. Stronger physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I want women to believe they can lead, build, and take up space without apology. If someone walks away thinking, “I can do hard things,” that’s impact. And if through how I lead and live I can point even one more person toward Jesus, that’s the greatest win of all.

Who or what inspires you?

My faith anchors me. My family grounds me. My husband inspires me daily. He is steady, wise, kind, and incredibly patient. Watching the way he leads and loves challenges me to be better. And my daughter, who was born at just 25 weeks, is a constant reminder of what resilience looks like. Her strength from the very beginning still leaves me in awe. I’m also deeply inspired by women who build while carrying a lot. The ones who show up tired but committed. The ones who don’t quit when it gets hard. That kind of resilience is powerful.

What is your favorite piece of advice you've ever received or favorite quote?

I remind myself often, “God’s got me.” When stressful situations rise, I pause and pray, “Okay God, You know better. Help me navigate this.” That surrender keeps me grounded. And in leadership, I’ve learned that love means holding people accountable. Growth requires honest, candid conversations. The steady work, the hard conversations, and the faith in the middle of pressure. That’s what builds something that lasts.

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty is strength wrapped in grace. It’s confidence without arrogance. It’s resilience with softness. Real beauty is who you are when things don’t go your way and you choose integrity anyway.

What advice would you give your past self just starting your business?

Stop trying to prove yourself. Focus on building well. The right people will see it. And don’t shrink when you start winning. You worked for it.

What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?

You don’t have to have it all figured out to start. Build anyway. Raise your hand anyway. Walk into the room anyway. The women sitting next to you are not your competition, they’re your community. There is room for all of us.
