HER STORY ⟡ Mackenzie Waggoner

Today, we are meeting Mackenzie Waggoner of Sacred Souls.

Tell us about you!

Hi, I’m Mack — Owner, Head Curator, and Lead Coordinator of Sacred Souls Co. I have been working in the wedding and event industry for other seven years, in roles ranging from photography to venue coordination and just about everything in between. Those experiences shaped the way I operate today: detail-oriented, people-focused, and deeply invested in creating an experience that feels true to each couple.

Outside of wedding days, I’m pretty easy to spot — I’m usually the one in heart-shaped sunglasses with a coffee in hand. I love exploring new places whenever I can, and when I’m home, you can usually find me crafting or hanging out with my very sweet dog, Maverick.

Why did I start

I grew up surrounded by weddings — quite literally. I was a flower girl more times than I can count, and even as a kid, I was fascinated by everything happening behind the scenes. I loved watching how each detail came together and how every person played a part in making the day feel special.

That early curiosity eventually became a real passion for supporting people on one of the most meaningful days of their lives. I first stepped into the industry through photography, where I was lucky to have a mentor who taught me what intentional service truly looks like. She showed me how to care for couples in a way that feels personal, thoughtful, and tailored to who they are. That experience shaped the foundation of how I approach wedding days now — focused, hands-on, and committed to making sure every couple feels understood and genuinely cared for.

Why I love being in the wedding industry

I feel incredibly grateful for the role I get to play on a wedding day. It’s a rare position where I’m invited into moments that are emotional, unfiltered, and often deeply vulnerable. I get to be alongside couples and their families during some of the most meaningful points in their lives, and that connection is something I never take lightly.

What I love most is building real relationships with brides and their families—being trusted, welcomed in, and relied on during a day that holds so much significance. There’s something really special about witnessing people at their happiest and seeing the dynamic of their relationships up close.

I definitely have my favorite parts of a wedding day, too. Father–daughter dances, first looks, and siblings’ speeches get me every single time—I’m almost guaranteed to tear up.

What makes a successful wedding?

I get asked this all the time! Every wedding is uniquely its own, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all formula. But what truly makes a wedding successful is how you feel throughout the day. Comfort is everything—feeling supported, understood, and confident that the people around you are working with your best interests in mind.

My priority is making sure your vision translates from ideas to reality in a way that feels effortless for you. A successful wedding isn’t just about beautiful details; it’s about being present enough to enjoy them. When you look back on your wedding day, I want you to remember how it felt—not just how it looked. That means you get to actually experience the celebration you planned, stay in the moment, and genuinely have fun.

What is some advice you have for other people wanting to get into new careers/spaces

I spent years working for others and really learning what it meant to be part of the wedding industry. I was fortunate to have people who welcomed me in, let me shadow their process, and taught me what intentional, people-centered work looks like. Their guidance shaped so much of who I am as a business owner.

One of the best decisions I ever made was reaching out to other women-owned businesses and asking to learn from them. That community changed everything for me. I still have mentors who continue to guide me, challenge me, and support me as I grow. Having those women in my corner has been a true game changer, both professionally and personally.
