Meet Sam Loveless, District Manager of European Wax Center
Hey everyone! I'm Sam!
My name is Sam Loveless, and I'm a District Manager for European Wax Center here in the Capital District! I've spent over 14 years in the beauty industry, starting my career with Total Tan before joining European Wax Center, where I've spent the last 11 years growing both personally and professionally.
What started as just a job turned into a career I absolutely LOVE! Over the years, I've discovered that my biggest passion isn't just the beauty industry itself. It's the PEOPLE! Developing amazing teams, helping others grow, and watching people find confidence in themselves is what makes me love what I do. I'm a people person through and through! Whether I'm visiting one of my centers, coaching my management teams, connecting with guests, or attending community events, I genuinely love meeting new people and building relationships.
And if you know me, you know I'm always up for a good conversation, a little laughter, and probably making a new friend along the way!
Why I started:
I originally got into the beauty industry because I loved working with people and being part of an industry that helps others feel good about themselves.
I started my career with Total Tan before making my way to European Wax Center, and what I thought would just be another opportunity turned into so much more.
What I didn't realize at the time was just how much I would fall in love with the leadership side of the business.
I loved connecting with guests, but I quickly discovered that I loved helping my team members succeed just as much. Seeing someone learn a new skill, overcome a challenge, or accomplish something they didn't think they could do was incredibly rewarding.
Over the years, I've had the opportunity to grow from a Center Manager into a District Manager, and with every new role came new opportunities to learn, challenge myself, and help others grow along the way.
Looking back, I never would have imagined that what started as a job would turn into a career that has given me so many opportunities to grow, meet incredible people, and make a difference in the lives of others. And honestly, I wouldn't change a thing!
What I love about being a leader:
THE PEOPLE! Seriously, I wouldn't be where I am today without the amazing people I've had the opportunity to work alongside.
One of my favorite parts of my job is watching my team members accomplish things they didn't think they were capable of.
Whether it's someone getting their first promotion, a manager reaching a goal they've been working toward, or an associate finally finding their confidence, those moments are what make it all worth it.
I also love that no two days are ever the same. Anyone who works in management knows that you can walk into work with a perfectly planned day, and by 9:05 AM, that plan is completely out the window!
But that's part of the fun, right?! At the end of the day, hitting goals and running a successful business is important, but what really makes me proud is the PEOPLE behind those numbers. Watching someone grow, gain confidence, and accomplish something they once thought was impossible? THAT is what makes it all worth it!
What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet?
I hope people walk away from an interaction with me feeling a little more confident, supported, and empowered than they did before.
As a gay man working in the beauty industry, I know how important it is to have spaces where people feel comfortable being authentically themselves. Whether it's a guest walking into one of our centers for the first time or an associate who's still finding their confidence, I want everyone to feel welcomed, valued, and celebrated for exactly who they are.
As a leader, one of the most rewarding parts of my career has been helping others recognize their potential. Sometimes all someone needs is a person who believes in them before they fully believe in themselves.
If I can be that person for someone, then I know I'm doing something right!
Who or what inspires you?
The people around me! I'm constantly inspired by the amazing individuals I get to work with every day. Watching people challenge themselves, overcome obstacles, and grow into their potential is something that never gets old.
My family, my better half, and my friends are also a huge part of what keeps me motivated. They remind me to enjoy life, celebrate the little things, and never take myself too seriously. And honestly, I'm inspired by anyone who has the courage to step outside their comfort zone and go after something they really want.
I think we can all learn something from one another, and some of the most valuable lessons I've learned have come from the people I least expected.
What is your favorite piece of advice you've ever received or favorite quote?
"Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken."
I think we spend so much time worrying about what other people think or trying to fit into what we believe we're supposed to be.
The older I get, the more I realize that being authentically yourself is one of the most powerful things you can do. Show up, be kind, work hard, and don't be afraid to take up space! And remember, you can be a work in progress and still be proud of how far you've come.
What does BEAUTY mean to you?
To me, beauty is CONFIDENCE! It's about being comfortable in your own skin, embracing what makes you different, and being unapologetically YOU!
Growing up, I think we all experience moments when we feel like we need to fit into a certain mold or meet someone else's expectations. As a gay man, I've learned that there's so much freedom in embracing who you are instead of worrying about who everyone else thinks you should be.
Working in the beauty industry has only reinforced that for me. I get to see firsthand how something as simple as a beauty service can completely change the way someone carries themselves. That little boost of confidence can make all the difference!
Beauty isn't one size fits all, and it certainly isn't defined by gender, age, or what society tells us we should look like. It's about feeling GOOD, feeling CONFIDENT, and loving the person looking back at you in the mirror. And honestly, there's nothing more beautiful than someone who is unapologetically themselves!
What advice would you give your past self just starting your career?
Stop overthinking everything and GO FOR IT!
You're going to make mistakes. You're going to have days when you question yourself. And you're definitely going to encounter situations that make you wonder what in the world you signed up for!
But every single one of those experiences is going to teach you something. Don't be afraid to ask questions, take chances, or put yourself in situations that challenge you.
One thing I've learned throughout my career is that growth doesn't always happen when you're comfortable. Sometimes the opportunities that scare you the most are the ones that end up changing your life. And most importantly, don't forget to enjoy the journey!
What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?
First of all, THANK YOU for welcoming me into such an amazing community!
As a male leader in an industry where I've had the privilege of working alongside so many incredible women, I've had the opportunity to learn from, work with, and help develop some truly amazing individuals. One of the things I'm most passionate about is empowering the women on my teams to recognize their potential, step into leadership roles, and go after the things they want. I'm a firm believer that there's room for EVERYONE to succeed, and we should be celebrating each other's wins along the way!
I'm so excited to be part of a community that brings together people from different backgrounds, industries, and walks of life who all share a passion for empowering others. I can't wait to continue building relationships, supporting local businesses, and cheering on all the amazing people who make this community what it is.
And seriously, if you see me at an event, COME SAY HI! I'm always down for a good conversation, a little networking, and maybe a cocktail or two!
