HER STORY ⟡ Allyson Gracie

Today, we are meeting Dr. Allyson Gracie, DACM, LAc.!

From Day Job to Be Job: Longevity is a Quality of Life

Allyson thrives working with others, as well as working solo.  Her mental health became her Number 1 priority in her mid-twenties, spending her adult life in pursuit of Wellness, while working corporate jobs.  Allyson is grateful to see the current culture embrace mental health, as well as physical well being, and to make room for trends that support sobriety, diversity, recovery from eating disorders, trauma therapy, and financial wellness.  Oh, and let's not forget about menopause.

Tell us about yourself and how Gracie Acupuncture began:

Never ending change has been her theme.  From Seventh Avenue in the 80's to Wall Street in the late '90's, Allyson has travelled through various industries looking for 'home'. She landed in the fitness industry in 2002 after making the leap to Pilates Instructor.  It changed her life. No, really!! Her core became stronger and her chronic low back pain subsided.  She loved leading group classes and training clients privately. Her inner confidence led her to pursue yoga instructor training, as well. She traveled to India for a Krya retreat in Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga.  She enjoyed Pilates conferences in London and Hong Kong.  She worked at a spa in Tuscany.  But, wait! There's more!!!  Realizing she could be on the planet for another 40 years as the dubious result of her clean living and healthy lifestyle, she entered a graduate program to earn her Master of Science to become a licensed Acupuncturist and share this beautiful medicine with others.

Why did you start Gracie Acupuncture?

I had a life-changing experience with Acupuncture after contracting a serious staph infection that would not yield to antibiotic therapy.  Acupuncture also helped me move through grief, depression and anxiety.  I hope to share this message with others who want additional support.  I also treat Vision using a special style of Acupuncture, called MA48, which can improve vision issues and in some cases, resolve them, without surgery or heavy meds. My vision is precious to me and I want to help others preserve their vision, as well.

What do you love most about being a business owner?

The chance to directly impact others, by connecting with them.  I also have the ability to set my own hours, so I can work at odd times if I choose.

What impact do you hope to have on the people you serve?

Like my own lived-experience: Get people out of pain.  Then encourage them to make wellness a lifestyle, not a magic bullet or a foxhole prayer to be employed during times of a health crisis.

What is your favorite advice or quote?

The theme of my life!!! Eckart Tolle "Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness.  How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at this moment."

What does beauty mean to you?

EVERYTHING! It is the outer manifestation of inner health and state of mind.

What advice would you give before starting a business?

All depends on your risk tolerance. Keep it simple.  Get support from other business owners.  Have a prudent reserve and a back up plan, like a part-time job to keep money coming in, if necessary.  Enjoy the ride!

What would you like Beauty Boost members to know about you?

That I value my physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing, which is precious and is the only reason I am able to serve others and participate with this Beauty Boost Buffalo community!
