Tell us about you and your background!
Hey everyone, my name is Matt Schaber and I am one of the owners of Apex CliniCare. Alex Hobbs is the other owner, and we are honored to be able to help as many people in our community as possible.
We both are local, went to Fairfield high school and I graduated from University of Kentucky and he has degrees from Miami University and the University of Cincinnati.
I started off after graduating college as a strength coach and personal trainer. Looking at every opportunity to help people become a better version of themselves. I branched further into helping be the strength coach at high schools, and helped coach girls volleyball from a school and a club level.
At the same time the other half of the business, Alex Hobbs, was working at UC Medical Center for a total of 10 years while he was working on his degrees. While he learned how to manage acute injuries and illnesses, he was motivated to go further and become a nurse practitioner to help people in a preventative manner. While acute issues need to be addressed, chronic issues often have a root cause and sometimes helping people fix that root cause can prevent daily medications and allow people to live and feel better without medical intervention. After working in an urgent care for a few years, he took it upon himself to study nutrition, hormone replacement, regenerative joint injections, cosmetic injections for migraines and TMJ in order to further his ability to offer multiple modalities for people to live healthier lives.
Tell us about your business and why you started it!
When the pandemic hit and everything went into lockdown, Alex found himself working around the clock in a medical setting. He was seeing 120-150 patients a day, with just one or two people helping him out. After a while, he reached out to me and said, “I know you have experience running a business. I can handle the medical side, but I need someone to help with the business side. I want to create a place where people can get personalized care from a team that really cares about them—and is taken care of too.”
Since Alex is my best friend, and we both love helping people, I said, "Let’s do it!"
So, during those late-night hours (midnight to 3am), after Alex had finished seeing patients, we started brainstorming and planning our business. We officially opened in West Chester, Ohio, in July 2021.
What makes us different from other places that say “patient first” or “personalized care” is that we really mean it. It’s just the two of us in charge, so we’re the ones who answer to our patients—not a big corporation or management team. If you come to us with a concern, we’re going to take it seriously. We don’t believe in brushing things off like, “You’re fine” or “It’s within range.” If something’s bothering you, we’ll address it and make sure you’re taken care of, even if it means recommending someone else who can help you further.
We also don’t believe in just handing out prescriptions. We want to find out the root cause of what’s going on, not just treat the symptoms. Our goal is to help your body heal naturally, so you can feel better in the long run without relying on medications that might cause other problems later on.
It’s these two core ideas—“patient first” and “not a drug-first approach”—that set us apart. We want to help you reach your optimal health, not just settle for “normal.” Let’s work together to get you feeling better than ever!

What do you love about being a business owner?
For me, the best part of being a business owner is knowing that I’m making a positive impact on people’s lives. While I don’t provide the medical services myself, I work closely with Alex and the amazing professionals on our team. I’m confident that our staff is giving the best care possible, and that’s what makes my job easy. I get to meet our patients and speak on behalf of a team I truly trust.
Alex, on the other hand, gets to educate every person who walks through our doors. Even if someone doesn’t end up using our services, we always make sure they leave with more knowledge about their health. We don’t want you to rely on Google or unqualified advice from friends and family. When you leave here, we want you to be in a better place than when you came in, whether you’re here for a treatment or just a consultation.
What advice would you give your past self, from 5 years ago or just starting your business?
If I could go back and talk to myself, I’d say, "Remember why you started, and never half-ass anything!" We started this business because we wanted to give our community the best care possible, help as many people as we could, and provide our families with the opportunity to make a real difference. We want our kids to look back and be proud of what we’ve built. The biggest lesson is that no matter what you do, you have to commit 100%. Don’t just talk the talk—walk the walk.
What does BEAUTY mean to you?
From my perspective, beauty is all about strength. It's the strength to be proud of who you are and what you do. It’s the strength to be confident in yourself, to stand up for what you believe in, and to protect your family and loved ones. Beauty isn’t about appearance—it’s about being strong, inside and out.
Who or what inspires you?
I get my inspiration from all the people we help. Hearing how our services have made a difference in someone’s life, whether it’s solving a health issue they’ve struggled with for years or just helping them feel better, that’s what keeps me going. It’s the stories of positive change and the impact we have on our patients that inspires me to keep growing and doing more to help even more people.
