HER STORY ⟡ April Coker

Today, we are meeting April Coker of Core Theory Fitness!

My name is April, and I am the founder of Core Theory Fitness here in Houston. I work primarily with women navigating perimenopause, GLP-1s, and metabolic changes, helping them build strength, improve bone density, and feel more in control of their bodies again.

My path to running a fitness studio was not conventional. I started training alongside my mom at five years old and stayed involved in sports throughout my life, but my career initially took me into the energy industry, where I worked in high-performance, cross-functional roles managing complex projects. While I was successful in that environment, I maintained a strong interest in health, behavior change, and human performance. Over time, that interest evolved into a clear direction. I recognized a significant gap in how women were being supported in fitness, with many still being advised to rely on excessive cardio and under-eating, approaches that often work against long-term health and performance.

Core Theory Fitness was built to change that. I focus on evidence-based strength training that prioritizes muscle development, joint health, and long-term metabolic function. Everything I do is personalized. This is not group fitness. It is structured, intentional training designed to help women achieve real results and feel strong in ways that carry into everyday life!

Why I started:

I started Core Theory Fitness in 2016 because I wanted to build something that actually worked. I had seen firsthand how systems, strategy, and structure drive results in business, and I realized the same principles were missing in most fitness programs. I also wanted to create something of my own that aligned with how I think and how I like to work, while helping women solve real problems that were being overlooked.

What I love about being a business owner:

I like building systems, solving problems, and seeing tangible progress. I value the ability to work closely with people and help them achieve something they did not think was possible. Watching clients get stronger, move better, and shift how they see themselves is what makes the work worth it. I also appreciate the autonomy to continue learning, evolving, and refining what I do.

What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet and/or who purchase your services?

I want women to understand that strength is not optional. It is foundational to how they live, age, and function. If someone leaves my program feeling more capable, more informed, and more confident in how to take care of their body, that is the goal. Long-term, I want to change how women approach fitness at this stage of life.

Who or what inspires you?

I am inspired by people who take ownership and push themselves to improve, regardless of the environment they are in. I am inspired by clients who show up consistently and do the work, even when it is not easy. That level of commitment is what drives real change.

What is your favorite piece of advice you have ever received or favorite quote?

Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire!

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty is capability. It is the ability to move well, feel strong, and function at a high level in your own life.

What advice would you give your past self just starting your business?

Stop overthinking and execute faster! You will figure it out by doing, not by waiting.

What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?

If you have been told that your body slowing down is just part of getting older, that is not the full picture. With the right approach, you can build strength, improve your health, and feel better than you ever expected.
