Today, we are meeting Des Reeves, owner Glow Bar Aesthetics!
Hi ALL!
My name is Des and I'm a board-certified family nurse practitioner with over 13 years of medical experience. I have 3 amazing daughters, a goldendoodle named Melvin, and the most amazing, supportive husband. Glow Bar Aesthetics started out as an idea I played around with in the middle of the pandemic. I was pregnant with my 3rd daughter and life got a bit busy, so the idea of Glow Bar marinated for a few years until I was ready to take a chance and start a business.
Why I started:
I started Glow Bar Aesthetics for several reasons. I was working as a hospitalist during the pandemic, and like many other healthcare workers, I reached a point of extreme burnout. It was challenging to work long night shifts and come home and take care of my babies. I remember there being a time I went to a med spa to get Botox and restock on skincare, and my mood completely changed. I would go home and be excited to try my new regime, feeling and looking great as my Botox kicked in. Then it dawned on me that I could start a business and help other women have that same feeling.
What I love about being a business owner:
I love the freedom and flexibility that comes along with being a business owner. My family is my top priority and building something that can be flexible around family is so important. Although there is so much hard work and time put in, I enjoy having a say in how things are done. Starting and owning a business has been a learning experience and something I am proud of taking on.
What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet and/or who purchase your products?
I hope to empower everyone I meet to feel confident, beautiful, and informed about their aesthetic and wellness choices. My goal is to provide results-driven treatments and high-quality skincare products that enhance natural beauty. I want each person to leave feeling educated, cared for and excited about their aesthetics journey. Whether through a treatment, a conversation, or a skincare recommendation, my aim is to make a positive, lasting impact that helps people look and feel their best.
Who or what inspires you?
My daughters inspire me. I have always been driven and hardworking, but since becoming a mom it has shifted into something that's bigger than just me. I want to show my girls that you can be a badass woman and do whatever you want to do. I want to show them that it is ok to take a risk and to bet on yourself. I also want them to know that they can seek out anything they want in this world and in this life as long as they are happy.
What is your favorite piece of advice you've ever received or favorite quote?
Best Advice: Have a great day, and if you can’t have a great day, then don’t ruin someone else’s day. Mind your own business and drink some water.
Favorite Quote: What lies behind us, what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
What does beauty mean to you?
Beauty isn’t just one thing. There is beauty in appearance, but there's also beauty in confidence and self-love. There's beauty in personality, kindness and how you make someone else feel. There is beauty in our differences, and how we carry ourselves. It's a blend of what's on the outside and what shines from within.
What advice would you give your past self just starting your business?
Just. Do. It! Don’t wait for the right time or a better time - it will never come. Just start.
