HER STORY ⟡ Kelly Manicke
Today, we are meeting Kelly Manicke of Elevate Functional Medicine and Aesthetics!
Tell us about you and your background!
I've been a nurse practitioner for 17 years and an RN for 21 years. I went to USI for undergrad and Purdue to grad school. I have extensive background in the care of critically ill patients and due to my own history of autoimmune disease, took a particularly interest in functional medicine. This lead to me pursuing further education in root cause based medicine and then to opening Elevate in 2022. I am married, to Nick (who also went to Purdue and hold a PhD in analytical chemistry). We have three children and reside in Zionsville. I enjoy lifting weights, traveling and coffee.
Tell us about your business and why you started it!
I started Elevate because I wanted to offer a place where patients (particularly women) could receive personalized root caused based medical care. This then lead to us bringing in the best technology and aesthetics team. We created a place where functional medicine meets high-end aesthetics, giving every client a clear path to looking and feeling their best. Our care is never one-size-fits-all. We listen closely, look deeper, and build real relationships that lead to lasting health, beauty, and confidence. The inspiration to start my business started with my own journey with Hashimoto's thyroid - I was originally a patient in a functional medicine office and the care I received there was life changing. My husband took a sabbatical in January of 2022 and was a guest professor at ETH in Zurich, Switzerland. It was there that Elevate was formed. I came home and opened my practice in August 2022 and then left my hospital based position in February of 2023.
What do you love about being a business owner?
Owning a business often feels like you're on a boat and you're bailing water out of it. It's sometimes a lonely journey. However, watching your business and your team succeed is the best feeling. I been blessed to meet so many business owners along the way who have been such a source of inspiration to me. When our patients leave us a google review or tell us how much we've changed their life - it means the world to me. I love being able to share the share the wins and the losses with my children, who love asking questions about my day. Being a business owner has changed me. It has empowered me to live my best life.
What advice would you give yourself from 5 years ago OR your past self just starting your business?
Hang on - it's going to be a roller coaster ride but it's so worth it. The lives that Elevate is going to change is worth it. It's going to be hard, scary, and more stressful than anything you've ever done - but the growth is worth the pain. For the love of Pete - find a business coach who specializes in your niche EARLY.
What does BEAUTY mean to you?
Strength, empowered, health. True transformation starts within and radiates outward.
Who or what inspires you?
Such a cliche - but my family. They are just as invested as I am in this practice. My husband and children have been just as much a part of this journey as I have - just in their own ways. They've offered me grace and understanding as I've navigated being a wife, mom and business owner. They have never once complained about me starting Elevate. I want them to be proud of the work that we are doing here and about what we've built together.
What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?
Do it. Whatever you're scared to do. Take the leap. I never would have imagined that my small idea would have turned into the practice that we have now. I am grateful for EVERY single patient that chooses to walk into Elevate. I am thankful for the team that chooses to grow with me. I'm just a mom trying to help other women live their best lives.
