HER STORY ⟡ Samantha Ward

Today, we are meeting Samantha Ward of Sour Patch Studios!

Tell us about you! I'm Samantha Ward — creative studio owner, mama to two little ones, and a proud line wife building a full, beautiful, slightly chaotic life here in New England. I'm happiest when I'm making something: a brand, a website, a piece of content that finally makes a business owner go, "wait... THAT'S me." I run on iced coffee, big ideas, and an almost embarrassing amount of heart.

Tell us about your business!

Sour Patch Studios is a creative studio for small businesses and big dreamers; we do brand design, websites, social media management, and photo + video content that actually feels like you. The name kind of says it all: a little sweet, a little bold, never boring. I started it in June 2023 as a total one-woman show, editing photos at my kitchen table after the kids were asleep. Three years later, we're officially a team of four, and I still pinch myself. What began as just me, my laptop, and a whole lot of heart has grown into something I get to share, without ever losing the personal touch it was built on.

What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet/speak to?

I want every woman I work with, or even just cross paths with, to walk away feeling seen, not sold to. Running a business can make you feel small and invisible some days, and I want to be the person who reflects your magic right back at you. If someone leaves a conversation with me feeling a little more confident in who they are and what they're building, that's the whole job to me.

What advice would you give to yourself from 5 years ago?

Stop waiting to feel ready, you never fully will, and that's kind of the point. Start before it's perfect, ask for help way sooner, and let people in. Oh, and boundaries aren't mean; they're how you keep loving the thing you built. (Still very much learning that one, if I'm being honest.)

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty is realness. It's the quiet confidence that shows up when you stop performing and start being honest; with your work, your people, and yourself. It's a woman who's a little tired, a little in-progress, and still showing up anyway. That, to me, is the most beautiful thing there is.

What do you love most about owning your own business?

Watching someone's vision come to life right in front of them, that moment their whole face lights up seeing their brand for the first time. And, honestly, building a team. Going from one to four has been the most unexpectedly emotional part of this entire ride. I get to create alongside women I genuinely adore, and no spreadsheet ever gave me that feeling.

Who or what inspires you?

The women do it all in the in-between moments; building dreams during nap times, lunch breaks, and 9pm quiet. My kids, who remind me every day why balance actually matters. And every small business owner is brave enough to bet on herself. That kind of courage is contagious.

What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?

You don't need permission, a perfect plan, or all the confidence in the world to begin. I built Sour Patch Studios in the tiny pockets of a very full life, and it grew because I kept showing up — not because I had it figured out. It starts to get messy. Started being scared. Just start. And find your people, because the right women make every bit of it sweeter.

What is your favorite quote?

"You can have it all, just not all at once." (A little reminder I whisper to myself on the hard days.)
