When your days involve the same people, conversations, and routines, even a full life can start to feel predictable.

Fall is an opportunity to change that. Before the holiday calendar fills up, put yourself somewhere that introduces you to a new perspective, an unexpected connection, or something you didn't know you'd love.

Heres our 5 list of ways to do so!

1. Go somewhere you aren't already the expert.
Take a class outside your field. Attend a talk on something you're curious about. Try a creative workshop. Being a beginner gives you permission to ask different questions—and discover strengths your usual routine never calls for.

2. Make a connection outside your industry.
Invite someone whose work or life fascinates you to coffee. A business owner, an artist, a community organizer, a woman pursuing an unconventional goal. Ask what she's learning and what she's changed her mind about. Let the conversation go beyond job titles.

3. Choose an invitation that breaks your usual pattern.

4. Ask a question that opens up the conversation.
Try “What are you excited about right now?” or “What's something you'd love to try before the year ends?” Share your own answer, too. You might discover a shared ambition—or find someone ready to join your next adventure.

5. Give a promising connection a second meeting.
When you meet someone you click with, follow up with a specific plan. Invite her on a fall walk, grab lunch, or attend another event together. A great first conversation becomes a relationship when someone takes the initiative.

This October, choose one room you wouldn't normally walk into. You already know what your usual circle offers. Give yourself a chance to discover what else is out there.
