HER STORY ⟡ Becky Funk

Today, we are meeting Becky Funk!

Tell us about you!

I’ve always been drawn to helping people. I spent 10 years as an educator in high school and college classrooms, supporting students as they navigated the high-pressure world of achievement. After leaving the classroom to navigate a complex health journey with my own son, I began coaching anxious teens through their own hurdles. But after 200+ hours of coaching, I realized the person struggling the most was often the mom standing right behind them. Today, I help moms get so connected with their teens that their kids actually want to talk to them. When I’m not translating teen behavior, you can find me volunteering with my certified therapy cat, Charlie.

Tell us about your business!

I’m dedicated to helping moms of teens move from a state of constant worry to a place of confident connection. I created the Safe Place Parenting Model to help moms identify their own triggers and reactions, opening up new ways to connect so their teens feel safe to share their lives. My goal is to help you become the 'safe place' you’ve always wanted to be for your child. I offer 1:1 coaching, personalized Enneagram parenting manuals, and a non-judgmental space to navigate the beautiful mess of the teen years.

What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet/speak to?

My biggest hope is that every woman I meet leaves feeling an immediate exhale, feeling deeply seen, heard, and understood. For the moms I work with, I want to replace their worry with genuine hope.

There is a common myth that the teen years are just something to be 'survived' or that they have to be filled with constant conflict. I want to show moms that these years don’t have to be difficult. The biggest impact I hope to have is to help families move past the friction and get to a place where they actually enjoy being together and truly enjoy each other's company. I want moms to walk away knowing they have the tools to be their teen's safe place, and the confidence to lead their family with peace instead of pressure.

What advice would you give to yourself from 5 years ago?

Five years ago, I was in the thick of a medical crisis with my son, drowning in worry and my own spiraling anxiety. I’d tell that version of myself: "You don’t have to be the only one." I didn't trust anyone else to care for him, neglecting my own 'oxygen mask' because I was terrified everything would fall apart if I let go. I’d tell her that she isn’t broken; she’s just overwhelmed. The more she heals, the safer she becomes for both of them.

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

To me, beauty is the courage to take off the mask. As a recovering perfectionist, I used to think beauty meant having it all together, but navigating my son’s health journey taught me that real beauty is found in the messy vulnerability of being our true selves. It’s the abundance of love and compassion that grows when you walk through hell and come out the other side. It’s not about being flawless; it’s about being owning your hard chapters without shame and realizing that your mess is actually the bridge to connecting with the people you love most.

What do you love most about owning your own business?

What I love most is the freedom to set my own pace. After 10 years of answering to a 7:30 AM school bell, I finally have the space to set my own pace. Owning my business means I can be available for my sons when they need me, run errands in my comfy clothes, and work at a rhythm that keeps me out of a high-stress mode. But the real gift is the direct impact: I love seeing a mom’s entire dynamic shift just by learning one simple tool, like asking her teen, 'Do you want to vent, or do you want advice?' Knowing I’ve built a career out of those life-changing 'aha' moments is the ultimate reward.

What is your favorite quote?

"Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity." - Brene Brown

What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?

The teen years don’t have to be a season you just survive. They can be a time when you and your child actually enjoy being together.
