Today, we are meeting Tiffany Anderson of Knotting Tides!
Tell us about you!
I’m Tiffany Anderson, a Lancaster native through and through. By day I’m a strategic marketing analyst, buried in data and campaigns and trying to figure out what makes people tick. Knotting Tides started as the opposite of all that. After a full day of screens and spreadsheets, I needed something that used my hands instead of my brain, something with zero notifications. That’s how I found macramé.
Tell us about your business!
I got a little obsessed with it, honestly. There was something so satisfying about tying and untying knots until they turned into something beautiful, and eventually I started teaching workshops so other people could feel that same slow-down moment. Then COVID hit and that chapter quieted down. But the itch to make things never left me, it just found a new outlet in the charm bar. I named the business Knotting Tides because tides never really stop moving, they’re always being pulled somewhere new, and that felt like the right way to describe how this business has grown. I still tie the occasional macramé piece, but these days most of my energy goes into the charm bar, watching guests pick their chain and choose charms that actually mean something to them, a birth flower, a place they’ve been, a reminder of who they are right now.
What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet/speak to?
The charm bar is where my curiosity shows up in a completely different way than it does at my day job. Instead of a dashboard, it’s a conversation. Instead of a conversion rate, it’s watching someone’s face when they find the exact charm they didn’t know they were looking for. I want people to leave that interaction feeling seen, not just sold to.
What advice would you give to yourself from 5 years ago?
Stop waiting for the “right time” to start. I spent so long thinking I needed more time, more money, or more certainty before I let myself create something. The truth is you learn by doing, not by waiting until you feel ready.
What does BEAUTY mean to you?
To me, beauty isn’t about looking a certain way. It’s about that quiet confidence you carry when something, whether it’s an outfit, a piece of jewelry, or just a good day, reminds you of who you are.
What do you love most about owning your own business?
Getting to watch an idea turn into something real, in real time, in front of people. There’s nothing like standing at the charm bar and watching someone build a piece that means something to them. I get to be part of that moment, and no spreadsheet or campaign report gives me that same feeling.
Who or what inspires you?
Women who build things on their own terms inspire me endlessly, especially the ones balancing a full time career with something they’re building on the side. I also find a lot of inspiration in the small, unexpected details people bring into the charm bar, the stories behind why someone picks a certain charm always stick with me.
What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?
You don’t need permission to start something that lights you up. I built Knotting Tides in the pockets of time I had outside a demanding full time job, and it grew because I kept showing up for it, not because I had it all figured out. Start messy. Start small. Just start.
